New Guidance on Preparing 'Cost Language' for Consent Forms when a Research Study Includes Any Use of UPMC Clinical Services

To improve subjects' understanding of what costs they may be responsible for when they participate in certain types of research studies, the University of Pittsburgh IRB and the UPMC Research Fiscal Review Office have prepared the following guidance document that includes relevant definitions of "routine clinical services" and "research only services" as well as suggested consent form language in response to the question 'Are there any costs to me or my insurance carrier if I participate in this study?' All new research studies that include the use of any UPMC Clinical Service should incorporate the recommended language (customized for each study) in subject consent forms.
