Additional Requirements
Researchers must follow additional requirements as mandated by the federal regulations, and by the University.
- The University of Pittsburgh Education and Certification Program in what was formally known as Research Practice Fundamentals [RPF; now known as Internet-Based Studies in Education and Research, ISER] (both the research integrity and human subjects modules) must be completed by all researchers, including students and mentors or faculty advisors, before the IRB review process can be initiated. Individuals who have completed the Pitt program will not have to provide documentation; this will be queried automatically from the ISER data-base. Non-local researchers must either complete the Pitt program or provide documentation that they have completed a similar program from their local institution . A copy of their certification must be up-loaded into the system. Note that ‘non-local’ co-investigators who have not completed the Pitt ISER programs cannot be listed formally as co-investigators on any exempt application. If they MUST be listed as co-investigators (and from the IRB’s perspective, there is usually no good regulatory reason to include them as co-investigators), the PI should indicate this in response to the question titled “Additional Information, Clarification, or Comments for the IRB Reviewer” that is included in each of the exempt application forms.]
- The Principal
Investigator (and mentor/faculty sponsor, if applicable) must provide
a brief summary of their qualifications
to conduct this research.
- When studies
are conducted off site (i.e., not at the University of Pittsburgh
or UPMC and its affiliated hospitals), written authorization to conduct
the research at that location must be
uploaded into OSIRIS
.
